Noida, Nov 10 (Inditop.com) Three people were killed and three others critically injured when a speeding car crushed them in Noida’s Sector 39, police said Tuesday, adding that the driver of the car was inebriated.
The incident occurred at 10.50 p.m. Monday.
According to police, a Maruti Swift car rammed into a roadside makeshift dwelling and crushed nine people, out of which three people died on the spot. The remaining three people were rushed to a district hospital where they are battling for their life. The other three had left the spot by the time the police arrived.
The accident took place barely 800 metres from a police station.
The car, moving at great speed, ran into a slum along the roadside in which three different families comprising around 15 people were sleeping.
Eyewitness Rajpal said the car climbed the pavement. It first crashed into the first hutment where three people were sleeping. It then hit the second dwelling where four others were sleeping.
“The car was travelling at a high speed and as soon as I saw it coming towards me, I instantly jumped towards the canal to save myself. It all happened in a second,” Rajpal said.
The three people killed have been identified as Ram Milan, 30, Sumara, 26 and their son Ashok, 6.
The three people sleeping in the second hutment were injured.
Police said the victims were casual labourers laying cables along the road for Reliance Communications and were staying in temporary structures on the roadside.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Singh, the injured people were identified as Rajesh, Bobby and Bhuria.
“The driver of the car Rahul Gupta was dead drunk,” Singh alleged. “He revealed that he was a property dealer and was staying in Ghaziabad. He also suffered some injuries and was brought to hospital.”
