Guwahati, April 14 (Inditop.com) At least four people were killed and more than 20 injured in a thunderstorm that lashed several parts of Assam Wednesday, devastating homes and agriculture and uprooting trees, electric and telephone poles, officials said.

A government spokesperson said Kamrup, Nalbari, Dhubri, and Nagaon districts were worst hit by the thunderstorm, which was accompanied by howling wind and hailstorm, late Tuesday and again Wednesday.

“Four people were killed in separate incidents of house collapse and trees falling on rooftops due to the cyclonic storm in Mancachar area in Dhubri district,” a police official said.

More than 12 people were injured and up to 50 homes damaged in the same area.

An estimated 300 homes were damaged in the Hajo area in Kamrup district.

“The devastation has been extensive with trees, telephone and electric poles uprooted,” said Nurul Hussain, legislator of Hajo.

There were similar reports of damage to properties and injuries from Nalbari and Nagaon districts.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain and thunderstorms over most parts of Assam during the next 48 hours.
