Lucknow, Jan 22 (Inditop.com) A goods train derailed near Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh Friday, disrupting rail traffic in the region, officials said. No one was injured.
The accident took place at Sathiyaon station near Azamgarh, some 300 km from here, when three bogeys of the goods train derailed, an official said. Traffic was disrupted on the busy Varanasi-Azamgarh-Gorakhpur route.
“The exact reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, but it appears the derailment took place due to some problems in the brakes of the train. The derailment subsequently damaged the tracks,” Azamgarh’s government railway police (GRP) inspector R.K. Yadav told reporters.
“An inquiry into the incident by a team of high-level officials has been initiated,” he added.
The train was headed for Bihar from Varanasi. Officials said it would take a few hours to restore rail traffic on the route.
“Work is under way to restore traffic on the route under the supervision of senior railway officials,” Yadav said.
