New Delhi, Oct 26 (Inditop.com) Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan’s car, which had a radio tag attached to it, was Monday stolen from outside his driver’s house, police said.

The Mahindra Bolero was stolen from driver Niranjan Mohanty’s house in Sector-5 of R.K. Puram in south Delhi around 5.15 a.m. Apart from various security related stickers, the car has a radio tag that allows its entry into parliament complex. The tag has been deactivated now.

“After duty hours, Mohanty daily used to take car back home and park it there. Around 5.15 a.m. he heard the sound of the engine and came out to check. He saw that someone was taking out the car,” said a police officer.

“He then tried to raise an alarm and stop it. Mohanty also gave the carjacker a chase on his motorbike, but lost him after some distance in Vasant Kunj area. He then made a police control room call (PCR) around 5.32 a.m.,” said the officer.

The PCR then alerted all police posts and its vehicles in the city and a search was launched. But the police said the vehicle was yet to be recovered.

A case has been registered at the R.K. Puram police station.

According to the police officials, the vehicle was reportedly being used as a pilot vehicle for Khan’s car. Khan is not in Delhi at the moment.

“The radio tag of the car was deactivated after the theft was reported. It is a common practice for the drivers to take the car back home when their duty ends very late,” a police source said.
