Panaji, May 10 (Inditop) The 24-year-old Russian tourist whose mutilated body was found along the railway tracks in North Goa Saturday, was reported missing a few days ago, police said Sunday.
Deputy superintendent of police Sammy Tavares told Inditop that the dead tourist, Elena Sukhnova, was reported missing by the manager of the Sun city hotel in Baga May 5.
“She was in Goa a few days before that. She had gone missing from her room, which forced the hotel management to file a missing complaint with the Calangute police station,” Tavares said.
However, Sukhnova resurfaced a few hours after the missing complaint had been filed and in her statement to the police, had said that she had gone out with a male friend named Winnie.
“We are looking out for Winnie right now. We suspected he is an Indian, she had befriended either during her stay in Goa or elsewhere,” Tavares said.
Sukhnova’s body was found in a mutilated state on the railway track near Revora village, about 30 kms from Panaji Saturday. Police say that they have not yet formed a final opinion on the nature of death.
“The post mortem will clarify issues. Winnie’s statement will be crucial too,” police officials said.
