Bhopal, Aug 9 (Inditop.com) Seven of the nine people accused of beating a tribal woman and parading her naked in Madhya Pradesh’s Jhabua district Friday have been arrested, police said Sunday.
The incident took place in the district’s Chapaner village, when Manju of the Bhil community, who had eloped with her paramour Khuman last year despite being married and having three children, returned to the village for the Raksha Bandhan festival.
Khuman had paid her first husband Babu Rs.100,000 as compensation. However, the matter was apparently not resolved and the Bhil panchayat (council) decided that she would not be allowed to enter the village.
Learning of her visit, nine people of the community, including her first husband, barged into her parental house late Friday, beat her up and insulted her, and then paraded her naked.
“The police registered a case against all the nine people involved in the incident and the woman was admitted to district hospital,” Jhabua’s Superintendent of Police Abhay Singh told Inditop, adding seven have been arrested while the police are looking for the other two men.
