Lucknow, Sep 16 (Inditop.com) A man who supplied the rectified spirit allegedly used to make the spurious liquor that killed 29 people in Uttar Pradesh last week has been arrested, police said Wednesday.
Praveen was arrested from Haryana’s Rohtak district Tuesday. As many as 29 people in Saharanpur district died and over two dozen fell seriously ill last week after consuming the spurious liquor. Many people involved in the racket have been arrested in the past few days.
“During the interrogation of the kingpin Islam, he revealed the name of Praveen who used to supply him rectified spirit. This was used in making the spurious liquor that took the life of many,” Senior Superintendent of Police Amit Chandra told Inditop.
“We will be interrogating Praveen to find out his other buyers. There is a strong possibility of Praveen supplying this spirit in other districts of the state also,” he said.
He said more people would be nabbed soon.
Chandra said people who died after drinking spurious liquor bought it from Khasauli locality of Deoband district in Uttar Pradesh. Four wine shops have been sealed in the area and samples have been sent for tests.
The entire staff of Khasauli police station and inspector of Deoband police station were suspended last Thursday, two days after the first deaths were reported.
