Bhubaneswar, Oct 9 (Inditop.com) A month after a Mongolian-flagged cargo ship sank off Paradip harbour, the 26 crew members are still stranded in the port and cannot understand why they are not being allowed to go home.
“We don’t have any idea why we have been detained here. We don’t have any clue either when will we be released. We can’t do anything as we can’t go outside. We had inquired from the port authorities about our release, but they only showed some documents to us claiming that some departments have to give clearance,” said Seikh Kairzamman, the second engineer of MV Black Rose that sank Sep 9.
A total of 26 of the 27 member crew were rescued, including 17 Bangladeshis, three Russians and six Ukrainians and have been put up at the Aristocrat hotel in Paradip. But a month after the mishap, there is no respite for them.
“We have lost everything in the ship. We are crew members of the ship and not guilty for the accident. None of us have any idea what is going on and why we are not being released. Someone said that director general, Shipping has not given permission for our release,” said another crewman.
