Chandigarh, Nov 15 (Inditop.com) Chandigarh Police Sunday claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle lifters, with the arrest of four men. Nearly a dozen cars and four motorcycles were recovered from their possession.

The gang used to steal cars and motorcycles from various areas in Chandigarh, dismantle them and sell the spare parts to junk dealers in the city, police said.

According to the police, after getting a tip-off, they laid a trap here in Sector 45 and intercepted a jeep, carrying original parts of cars and bikes in it. On questioning, the driver disclosed the names of other accused and guided the police to their godown.

“After stealing cars and bikes, they transported them in a truck to a workshop in neighbouring Jagatpura village in Mohali district in Punjab. They dismantled the vehicles and then sold the original automobile parts, at very high prices, in the scrap market of Chandigarh,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (south) J.S. Khaira, told reporters here Sunday.

“We are hopeful of making more recoveries after the interrogation. We suspect that there is an involvement of more people in this racket that we will surely unearth in the coming days,” he added.
