Gurgaon, July 23 (IANS) The hunt for India’s funkiest pop band has begun across the country and the six shortlisted music groups from the capital gave an enthralling peformance here.
From pop to fusion to rock, the bands belted out foot tapping numbers Thursday evening at Altitude Club here and the audiences were left asking for more.
An initiative by Times Music, Supastars Pop Band Hunt launched a search for India’s best pop band and have selected ‘Bandey’, ‘Pheonix’, ‘Astitva’, ‘Nasha’ and ‘Drop Squad’ from Delhi who will vie for the title.
After Delhi, auditions will be held in Mumbai July 27, Bangalore July 28 and Kolkata Aug 2. The winner will get a chance to cut an album with the best pop producers of Sweden, which will be released by Times Music.
Punjabi pop singer Jasbir Jassi was also at the event to encourage the bands and he too performed. Jassi crooned his hit number ‘Dil le gai kudi Gujarat di’ as well as some songs from his new album ‘Back with a Bang’.
Asked about the platform provided to the budding music bands in the country, Jassi said, ‘This is a great platform. It is good to see that despite being westernised, these people retain the Indianness in their songs.’
