New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) Debutant director Sanjay Sharma’s movie ‘Dunno Y…Na Jaane Kyun’, which deals with homosexuality and was slated to release Friday, has been postponed for a Diwali outing due to protests by right-wing groups.
Starring newcomers Kapil Sharma and Yuvraj Parashar in lead roles, the movie invited the ire of the youth unit of a right wing party recently. The protesters allegedly sent threats to the makers of the film given its subject.
‘The actors have also been getting threatening mails from hardline individuals and organisations over the last week warning them with dire consequences if the gay film was released,’ read a statement from the film’s publicist.
‘And because of those threats, the film which was supposed to release this Friday, the makers have been forced to postpone the film next week for a Diwali release,’ it said.
‘The makers of the film are concerned about the security and concerns of their stakeholders and partners of the film. But they are taking it in their stride and have invited the protesters to watch the film to know that it is not just sensationalism but a sensitive portrayal of relationship, so that they can release it next week without any further obstacles,’ the statement added.
Also starring actresses Zeenat Aman and Helen in key roles along with Rituparna Sengupta, Kabir Bedi, Tara Sharma and Asha Sachdev, the low-budget movie will now rub shoulders with big-budget festival outings ‘Golmaal 3’ and ‘Action Replayy’.
