Mumbai, Dec 1 (IANS) Sitar player and singer Ustad Shujaat Khan says he had a great time recording an album with legendary singer Asha Bhosle.
‘I keep on meeting different people and when I met her, I thought let’s do album with her. And I had a great time recording this album with her,’ Shujaat, who teamed up with Asha for ‘Naina Lagai Ke’ that has classical-based songs, told IANS.
The idea of the album was to give a feel of live concert.
‘The album is no different from what you would hear at any concert. The old idea of the album was not to give much thought. Just to meet, sit together and have a great time over music. I sat with sitar and went singing,’ said Shujaat, son of late sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan.
Produced by Sa Re Ga Ma, the album is a potpourri of ghazals, folk and traditional songs.
‘Don’t take it as a classical album. There are folk, ghazal, and some lighter music based on classical music, but it is not a classical album,’ Shujaat said.
‘A couple of them are composed by me. One of them is composed by my son and a few of them are old traditional songs. We just thought to relive old memories and old thoughts and bring it out for people,’ said Shujaat.
