New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) The 12th Mumbai Film Festival Oct 21-28 will introduce a new competition section titled Celebrate Age in association with NGO Harmony for Silvers Foundation to encourage filmmakers to tell interesting tales about people in their twilight years.
‘The idea behind Celebrate Age is to identify and encourage filmmakers to look beyond the stereotypes of old age and to tread where few have gone before to look at the positive side of the silver (senior) years,’ said a statement from Harmony.
The Celebrate Age section will showcase ad films, short fiction films, documentaries and feature length movies on the spice, fun, adventure and concerns of senior people. The competition invites five-minute movies on any aspect of positive ageing.
Harmony for Silvers Foundation, an NGO for senior citizens, celebrates its fourth year of Harmony Silver Awards with the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) this year.
MAMI is the organiser of the Mumbai film fest.
The films selected for Celebrate Age section will be seen by a jury. A selection of entries along with the award winners will also be screened as part of the film fest.
The best film will be given a cash prize of Rs.50,000 while the runner-up will be awarded Rs.25,000. The last date for receiving entries is Sep 20.
The competition is open to film and media professionals and students. Films made in any format, including on a mobile phone camera, are eligible for participation.
