Mumbai, April 13 (Inditop) Director David Dhawan has rubbished reports that his son’s directorial debut has been delayed indefinitely and says the film, which will have Akshay Kumar in the lead, is going on floors as per schedule.
“That isn’t true. Rohit’s film was meant to start at the end of this year or January 2010. The schedule is unchanged,” Dhawan, who gave hits like “Partner”, “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya”, “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi” and “Biwi No. 1”, told IANS.
“As for the cast, only person finalised is Akshay Kumar. The rest is yet to be finalised. Everyone in the industry is so supportive of Rohit. I suppose somewhere I’ve generated enough goodwill for him to make a smooth entry as a director,” added the director.
Right now the director is busy preparing for the Hyderabad schedule of his Rensil D’Silva penned prison-break tale “Hook Ya Crook”.
Dhawan, who is working for the first time with D’Silva and actor John Abraham, says he enjoyed working with new artistes.
“Rensil’s script is a totally new experience for me. ‘Hook Ya Crook’ is non-comic territory for me. And I’m having a ball. Everyone – from the scriptwriter to all the actors including John Abraham – are new to me. It’s important to keep re-inventing myself,” he said.
Laughing off the rumour that the film is actually based on the Adam Sandler starrer comedy “The Longest Yard”, Dhawan said: “If it’s a prison it’s bound to look a certain way. It can’t be helped. But ‘Hook Ya Crook’ is not ‘The Longest Yard’.”
Earlier, Dhawan’s “Partner” got into an adaptation argument with Sony Pictures when it was found that the film was similar to the Will Smith starrer “Hitch”.
More recently Warner Brothers were on ‘read’ alert when it was printed that Vipul Shah’s new film “Instant Replay” had similarities to the Brad Pitt starrer “The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button”.
