Mumbai, April 25 (Inditop) Director Neeraj Pandey is unperturbed by UTV’s decision to sell the rights of his directorial debut “A Wednesday” to Kamal Haasan but admits he would love to see what the Tamil superstar does to his thriller.
He says it’s time he moved on from his first film and is happy that it has “gone to good hands”.
“It can’t be helped. The legal aspect of it is too complicated. I do have a stake in the commerce of the remake, but not the creativity. I can’t stop ‘A Wednesday’ from being remade in any language. At least it’s gone into good hands. The Tamil version already has one patron,” Pandey told IANS.
“I read Naseeruddin Shah’s comments wondering if Kamal Haasan would be playing more than one role. I’d love to see what Kamal Haasan does with ‘A Wednesday’. In any case I think it’s time for us to move on from ‘A Wednesday’. I’m working on another movie idea,” he added.
Starring Naseer and Anupam Kher, critically acclaimed “A Wednesday” is a thriller on terrorism that depicts a retiring police officer narrating a sequence of events that unfolded on a particular Wednesday. The incident doesn’t exist in any written record but only in the police officer’s mind.
Pandey is now putting finishing touches to a collection of English short stories and says it will show the romantic side of his personality.
“It’s taken more time than I thought,” the filmmaker said.
“I’ve been writing these stories for a while. Some of them were written before ‘A Wednesday’ and some after. But they all show the romantic side of me, something that people haven’t seen in my film. One or two do touch on terrorism,” he added.
“Writing a book is a different discipline from writing a screenplay,” Pandey remarked.
