Mumbai, May 27 (IANS) At the just concluded Cannes International Film Festival, where Bollywood stars’ wardrobe was the big talking point, 17-year-old Rajat Barmecha – the lead star of ‘Udaan’ – was clueless about what to wear for the red carpet.
Debutant director Vikramaditya Motwane’s ‘Udaan’, which was screened in the ‘Un Certain Regard’ section, was the first film to represent India in the Cannes official section in the last seven years.
‘Udaan’ being his first film and Cannes being his first outing to any international film fest, Rajat was clueless about the dress code. Apparently, the clothes he had carried were not fit to walk the red carpet of the biggest international film fests in the world.
When Anurag Kashyap, the producer of the film, learnt about it, he bailed out Rajat by arranging a tuxedo by Narendra Kumar at the eleventh hour. The team then walked the red carpet and earned a standing ovation after the screening.
‘All of us were going to be walking Cannes for the first time. Rajat had not carried any appropriate clothes. Luckily, we could arrange some thing fast for him. Nary (Narendra Kumar) was extremely kind to help us out,’ said Kashyap in a statement.
