Mumbai, June 20 (Inditop.com) A 36-year old Mumbai businessman who flew in from the US has tested positive for influenza A (H1N1), popularly called swine flu, a health official said here Saturday.
The man arrived Thursday from New Jersey after travelling in the Honduras and the US. He displayed some of the symptoms of swine flu and was sent to the Kasturba Hospital for a check-up, according to Pradeep Awate, head of the Swine Flu Control Room, Mumbai.
“Last night we received his medical report confirming the presence of the H1N1 virus and he has been isolated,” Awate told IANS.
Though the patient’s condition is described as “normal”, he is likely to be kept in hospital for at least a week.
This is the first confirmed case of swine flu in Mumbai although more than 30 suspected cases were reported and proved negative in the past month.
Health screening of all in-coming passengers is continuing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.
