New Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS) The national capital reported 93 more cases of dengue Saturday, taking the total number of people infected with the vector-borne disease to 2,821, an official said.

With 429 cases, south Delhi is the worst affected area this season, followed by Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s Civil Lines zone with 367 cases while Rohini zone is a close third at 339 cases.

According to an MCD official, the mosquito-borne disease has claimed five lives this year in the city.

Moreover, the corporation expects the number of dengue cases to cross the 2006 figure of 3,366 cases.

With the arrival of athletes and delegates for the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, the MCD officials are carrying out intensive fogging operations, apart from cleanliness drives at the Games venues and Village.

Some 7,000 participants and officials from 71 countries and territories are expected to attend the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games, India’s biggest sporting event after the 1982 Asian Games.
