New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) Chemists Monday ended a day-long strike against the stricter norms on sale of antibiotics, after meeting Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
‘The strike has been called off,’ All India Chemist Association president Kailash Gupta told IANS.
Chemists in Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Orissa staged a protest against a proposal to introduce stricter norms on sale of antibiotics.
‘We will put across our demands to the minister soon. If we don’t get a positive response, we will think of a strike again,’ Gupta added.
According to the association, over 91,000 pharmacy shops were affected due to the strike. The association has over six lakh members, Gupta said.
‘A restriction or stricter norms on sale will only cause black marketing of the medicines. People will suffer,’ he said.
