Paris, May 2 (Inditop) French Health Minister Roselyne Bachelot said late Friday that swine flu had been “established” in a man and a woman who had recently returned from Mexico.
“They are in hospital, they are doing well,” Bachelot told TF1 television. The 49-year-old man and the 24-year-old woman were both hospitalised in Paris.
She said that another ill person will “very probably” be found to have been infected with A(H1N1) influenza as well.
Bachelot was almost certainly referring to a 37-year-old man, also recently returned from Mexico, who France Info radio had earlier reported was ill with swine flu.
The station cited a doctor at Necker Hospital in Paris, where the ill person was being treated. He was said to be in stable condition and on a respirator.
Bachelot emphasized that all three people had recently been in Mexico. “It is therefore not a contamination that occurred in our country,” she said.
