New Delhi, June 27 (Inditop.com) Nine new swine flu cases, four each from Bangalore and Delhi and one from Punjab, Saturday took the total number of people detected with the influenza A(H1N1) virus in India to 89, a health official said here.
“At least 645 people have been tested so far of which 89 were positive for Influenza A (H1N1). Of the 89, 59 have been discharged. Rest of them remain admitted to the identified health facility. The situation is being monitored,” the health ministry official said.
“A family of four – a man, woman and two children – who travelled from Newark, the US, via Germany reached Bangalore Friday by a Lufthansa flight and were quarantined at the airport. They were shifted to the identified health facility and all of them have tested positive,” said the official.
The four cases reported from Delhi include a nine-year-old child who travelled from Seattle, the US, via Seoul reaching Delhi Thursday. The other three had come here from the US Monday.
“The case from Gurdaspur in Punjab is an indigenous case, a contact of positive case reported Monday,” said the official.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 263 people in many countries have died so far due to the pandemic, most of them in Mexico and the US.
