New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) Dengue refuses to go away from Delhi, with the city reporting 93 fresh cases Wednesday, pushing the total number to 3,201 this year.

South Delhi is the worst hit with 459 cases, followed by Civil Lines zone (415) and Rohini area with 367 cases, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has said.

The mosquito-borne disease has claimed five lives in Delhi.

The MCD is expecting the number of total dengue cases this year to cross the 2006 figure of 3,366.

As many as 1,153 dengue cases and three deaths were reported in 2009, 1,312 cases and two deaths in 2008, 548 cases and one death in 2007, and 3,366 cases and 36 deaths in 2006, an MCD official said.

Dengue symptoms include high fever for four to five days, usually accompanied by severe headache, pain in the eyes, muscle and joint pain and rashes. After the fever goes away, the blood platelet count starts dipping.
