Kolkata, Aug 8 (Inditop.com) Two doctors were Saturday admitted at the Infectious Diseases (ID) hospital here with symptoms of swine flu.
The medicos — Ranjit Mandal and Prashanta Sarkar — had fever and cough and cold.
“Their samples have been sent for testing,” state health department’s nodal officer for swine flu Tapas Sen told Inditop.com.
Meanwhile, the test results of another doctor — Tapati Mandal – of the ID hospital have been found to be negative.
“Tapati Mandal had visited a fellow doctor Manas Saha who was earlier admitted to the hospital after tests confirmed the presence of the H1N1 virus,” said a hospital official. Saha was released after completing the prescribed course of Tamiflu.
Now the swine flu ward at the hospital has 11 patients. Three of them — Japanese national Yuki Nakazawa, 22, Bahadur Firoze Shah and six-year-old girl Pranjali Mandal — have tested positive.
Pranjali’s case is causing concern, as the girl from Howrah — across the Hooghly river from Kolkata — does not have any history of having travelled outside the state.
Meanwhile, as the rush of people to the ID hospital for swine flu tests increased following the death of Pune girl Reeda Shaikh Aug 3, the state health department has opened two more specialised influenza clinics in the city.
The clinics will be housed in the state-run NRS Medical College and Hospital and RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
“People suspected to have swine flu can report to these clinics and have their samples collected for testing,” Sen said.
Since the outbreak of the disease in India, nine confirmed cases have been detected in West bengal.
