Srinagar, Dec 22 (IANS) At least 12 people were injured in different road accidents in Kashmir Wednesday, police said.
According to police, a Tata minibus turned turtle at Dooru in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district Wednesday afternoon injuring 10 passengers.
‘The injured were hospitalized and a case has been registered,’ a senior police officer said here.
Another speeding minibus knocked down a woman in north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district injuring her. Hafiza, wife of Bashir Ahmad Dar, is a resident of Hakim Gund.
‘The woman was taken to hospital,’ the police said.
In a third case, a girl was injured when a motorcycle hit her in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Rash and negligent driving has resulted in several road accidents in the state in recent months taking many lives.
The traffic department has set up special speed checking squads to bring down the incidents across the state.
‘Bad road conditions, overloading by bus drivers and rash driving to overtake other vehicles are the main causes of road mishaps here,’ said a traffic department official.
‘We are imposing stringent fines and even cancelling driving licences when such incidents happen,’ a senior traffic department officer said here.
