New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) A total of 718 police and paramilitary personnel from across India were conferred gallantry and service medals on the occasion of the 64th Independence Day, it was announced Saturday.
They include three recipients of the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (all posthumous), 141 recipients of the Police Medal for Gallantry, 61 of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 513 recipients of the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
The three awardees of the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry are constable Mushtaq Hussain Shah and special police officer Nissar Hussain of Jammu and Kashmir and constable Shyam Singh of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The maximum number of recipients of the Police Medal for Gallantry are from Manipur (29), followed by Jammu and Kashmir (28) and Uttar Pradesh (14). Twelve are from the CRPF.
The recipients include Delhi Police’s Additional Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who is getting the medal for the sixth time.
Among the recipients of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service is Delhi Police’s Special Commissioner (Crime and Special Cell) P.N. Aggrawal.
Twenty personnel have been awarded the Correctional Medal for Meritorious Service.
