New Delhi, Oct 9 (IANS) It was a stray dog’s day out at the Commonwealth Games, and it decided to make the most of it with a vengeance.
During a small break in Saturday morning’s athletics events at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, a brown stray sauntered in, unchecked, right to the middle of the lawn and squatted and did its job – to loud hooting from the stands.
When the stray came running inside the stadium, despite the stifling security, there was no Games volunteer to shoo it away. Only after it had done its business, bang in the middle of the lawn, and alerted by the loud jeers and whistling from the onlookers, did the volunteers react, and the dog was chased away.
‘The dog ran in and squatted right in the middle of the lawn, and looked as if it was shitting. I could’nt exactly see from the stall,’ said a young spectator who did not want to be named. ‘None of the volunteers or officials had noticed the dog,’ said the spectator who had come to watch the morning’s athletics events.
‘The Indians among the crowd were cheering the dog and whistling, while the Australians and other foreign spectators were jeering and making some comments like ‘Spot on’, and clapping,’ he said.
The event took place at around noon.
