Agra, Dec 30 (IANS) With erratic and inadequate electricity and water supply for over a week, residents of the Taj city are facing a winter of discontent.
Half the city has been without water for more than two days. Power supply was suspended for long hours after several sub-stations tripped. Three days ago, transmission and power grids tripped, cutting off electricity supply to the city completely.
Power supply also was disrupted in Mathura, Firozabad and Hathras Saturday.
Private discom Torrent Power Ltd. has had to face the wrath of people who held a series of protest marches. Agra Water Works, more than a century old, blames the erratic power for the disruption of its water supply.
“A few areas have not received water due to leakages in pipelines, which are being plugged,” said a Jal Sansthan official.
The frequent power cuts have been caused due to “cuts from Lucknow”, according to a Torrent spokesperson.
Power consumption in the city has increased phenomenally as almost every family is using heaters as temperatures have touched a new low in the past 10 days.
