New Delhi, June 30 (IANS) The monthly remuneration of over 11 lakh anganwadi community health workers would doubled with retrospective effect from April 1, the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) decided Thursday.
Taking forward the promise made by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee in his budget speech this year, the CCEA hiked the honorarium paid to anganwadi workers to Rs.3,000 from Rs.1,500, an official statement said.
Anganwadi helpers’ remuneration would be raised to Rs.1,500 from Rs.750.
‘The enhancement of honorarium will be made effective from April 1 through a letter to all the states/union territories as soon as the cabinet accords its approval,’ the statement said.
Presently there are over 11.17 lakh anganwadi workers and 10.97 lakh workers.
The anganwadi workers and helpers are the foot soldiers of the Integrated Child Development Services, a government scheme for countering of nutritional, health and other needs of pre-school children across the country.
