New Delhi/Lucknow, June 20 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday sent ‘a strong message’ to the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) expressing its anger over JD-U leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar returning the flood relief money to his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi.
‘The BJP has sent a strong message to the JD-U. We can not tolerate such behaviour of Nitish Kumar,’ a senior BJP leader told IANS.
The message was conveyed to JD-U president Sharad Yadav who met BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain in the capital Sunday.
Hussain met Yadav on the direction of BJP chief Nitin Gadkari — a day after Nitish Kumar returned the flood relief money.
On Saturday, Nitish Kumar returned the Rs.5 crore given for flood relief — miffed over advertisements featuring him and Narendra Modi and the latter’s reference to the aid provided by Gujarat during the 2008 Kosi floods.
In Lucknow, BJP leader Kalraj Mishra termed Nitish Kumar’s move as ‘narrow-minded’.
‘It is unfortunate. Nitish Kumar should accept his mistake,’ Mishra told reporters.
He said by returning the aid money, Nitish Kumar had not only hurt the sentiments of the people in Bihar and Gujarat but also all Indians.
