Patna, Aug 9 (IANS) In yet another train robbery in Bihar, armed men looted cash and valuables at gunpoint and assaulted dozens of passengers of the Howrah-Amritsar Express in Jamui district, police said Monday.
This is the second train robbery reported in the last four days in Bihar.
About two-dozen men barged into three AC and sleeper coaches of the train near Lahaban railway station, about 150 km from here, late Sunday and threatened to shoot the passengers if they tried to resist.
The passengers later told the police that the robbers had boarded the train at either Jashidih or Lahaban.
After looting the passengers, they pulled the chain and got off.
Angry passengers later staged a protest at the Simultala railway station under Asansol division of the Eastern Railway, shouting slogans against the inadequate security provided in trains.
Over a dozen train robberies have been reported across the state in the last six months.
Additional Director General of Police (headquarters) P.K. Thakur told IANS that the police officers concerned have been asked to take strict measures to check the spate of train robberies.
