Kolkata, Dec 15 (IANS) Mouth watering Hilsa from Padma river and exquisite Dhakai Jamdani sarees will on display aplenty at the five-day Bangladesh Utsav, scheduled to start here Thursday.
‘The third Bangladesh Utshav will start on December 16, the Vijay Divas of Bangladesh, with an aim to promote Bangladesh’s culture and heritage in West Bengal,’ said Bangladesh High Commission Counsellor Tareq Mohammad Ariful Islam.
December 16 is celebrated as Vijay Divas or Victory Day, to mark the surrender of the Pakistan Army to the Indian armed forces and the Mukti Bahini comprising Bangaldesh freedom fighters.
Several renowned Bangaldeshi singers like Sayed Abdul Hadi, Sahin Sabad, Papiya Saroar, Subir Nandi and Aditi Mahaseen will participate in the festival to be held at the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission office. Artistes from West Bengal will also take part.
‘Export quality goods like Dhakai Jamdani, Rajshahi silk, Tangail saris, handicrafts and ceramics, and different dishes of Hilsa, different sweet dishes and pies of Bangadesh will be available. We have asked the stall owners participating from Bangladesh to bring fresh sweets and Hilsa every day during the Utsav,’ said Islam.
