Kolkata, Jan 21 (IANS) West Bengal Governor M.K.Narayanan Friday termed political violence in the state a threat to internal security.

‘Yes, of course,’ said Narayanan to questions if he thought the current political violence in Bengal was a threat to internal security.

Condemning the Jan 7 killing of villagers in Netai village of Lalgarh in West Midnapore district, Narayanan said, ‘The Netai incident should not have happened. It should never happen again.’

The former national security advisor, who was speaking at a conference in the city, also said: ‘Communal tension and caste tension coupled with tension over rising prices is now also contributing towards degradation of internal security. Street anger cannot be neglected.’
