Guwahati, Oct 2 (IANS) A terror group claiming to be the Indian Mujahideen (Assam) Saturday threatened to launch a biological war in Assam if their supporters are not released from the Guwahati Central Jail within the next 24 hours (by Sunday evening).
The email from Indian Mujahideen (Assam) was received by News Live, a satellite TV channel in Guwahati, and telecast on 7 p.m. news Saturday.
The email signed by Tohik Khan, claiming to be the marketing chief of the so-called outfit, threatened the Assam government with the launching of a biological war if three of their demands were not met within 24 hours.
‘Free all our Jihadi brothers who are in Central Jail, Guwahati, stop all activities against Jihad in Assam, stop all project of develop (sic) in Assam,’ the email said.
‘For your kind information, biological war contain all disease that make death to all and biological weapon too.’
Assam Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the email’s origin and its Internet Protocol (IP) address.
‘We are taking the matter seriously and already experts are on the job to ascertain from where the email originated and also about the credentials of the group on whose banner the mail was sent,’ Inspector General of Assam Police Pallab Bhattacharya said.
Police are not willing to comment on the credentials of the outfit.
‘We really don’t know about any such outfit named Indian Mujahideen (Assam). But then we shall surely investigate,’ another police official said.
There are a few operatives of Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) arrested in the past and lodged at the Guwahati Central Jail although not many details are known about them.
