New Delhi, July 21 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday announced a nationwide programme to observe the Kargil Vijay Diwas (Kargil victory day) July 26 in memory of the soldiers who died in the 74-day long war between India and Pakistan.

‘Party president Nitin Gadkari along with other leaders will pay tribute to the martyrs of the war at India gate’s Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flame of the immortal warrior) on the day at 5.30 p.m. We lost our 527 soldiers in the 1999 Kargil war,’ BJP general secretary Vijay Goel told reporters here.

‘The Indian army with all its great might and struggle won the war in just 74 days, pushing out the Pakistani infiltrators,’ he added.
