Ahmedabad, May 9 (Inditop) The Border Security Force (BSF) troopers deployed at three outposts in the inhospitable Kutch region of Gujarat have been given satellite phones to keep in regular touch with their families, a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) official said Saturday.
The state-run BSNL has provided the phones and the troopers can talk at a subsidised rate of Rs.1 per minute instead of the standard charge of Rs.49 per minute in the country, the official said.
“The ‘jawans’ (soldiers) can now talk to their family members in any part of the country for just Rs.1 per minute from their assigned posts. This is a great morale booster for the jawans living away from their families for months,” he added.
He said that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had requested for the satellite phones after the BSF soldiers, during former’s visit to outposts on the India-Pakistan border, had complained that mobile phones are useless as they have no signal in the remote areas.
