Lucknow, July 6 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh’s ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), which kept away from Monday’s all-India shutdown, staged state-wide protests Tuesday against price rise, a spokesman said.
BSP activists staged demonstrations and held public meeting all over the sprawling state but the event was peaceful and caused no disruption to others, the spokesman said.
According to BSP, the party focussed on what it said was the inefficiency of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in containing inflation.
The BSP protests were attended by senior ministers, legislators, MPs and party leaders.
The BSP did not take part in Monday’s day-long strike across the country called by the opposition against rising prices of food and other essential items as well as the newly hiked fuel prices.
