Kolkata, Feb 1 (IANS) Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Tuesday dubbed West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee as the ‘father of Maoists’ and criticised him for threatening her party on alleged Maoist nexus.

‘He (Bhattacharjee) is the father of the Maoists. He is killing people only to stay in power. Why did they not ban Maoists earlier when they were banned in other states? They have used the Maoists to capture Keshpur (in West Midnapore),’ Banerjee told media persons in Kolkata.

She criticised Bhattacharjee for threatening to take action against the Trinamool leadership for alleged links with the Maoists.

‘They are only telling lies. Whenever there is a voice of protest against them they will say he or she is a Maoist. They should remember that in democracy common people speak the last word,’ said Banerjee.

The chief minister Tuesday threatened of taking administrative action against Trinamool Congress leadership if the party ‘continued its nexus with the Maoists’.

The Trinamool chief also took a dig at the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Front government in West Bengal for spending government funds on advertisements for ‘political purpose’.

‘They are unnecessarily spending a lot of money to advertise the achievements of the government. These claims are totally false. They have done nothing. The coming state government (after the elections) will not bear these unnecessary burden,’ she added.
