New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS) A 21-year-old man has been arrested from a bank where he hid himself in order to commit burglary, police said Tuesday.

Police said that Shiv Dutt, a resident of Sagarpur in west Delhi, entered a Punjab National Bank branch in Janakpuri Monday evening and hid himself.

After the bank closed for business, Dutt broke open an almirah, but did not find any cash. He also failed to break into the bank’s strong room.

Frustrated, he stole around 30 cheques and was trying to sneak out when some passer-by heard some noise and informed the Police Control Room, Additional Commissioner of Police V. Renganathan said.

Police entered the bank early Tuesday morning and found Dutt hiding inside a cavity between the roof and the ceiling.

Dutt told the police that he fell prey to an advertisement of easy loans and lost Rs.13,500 which he borrowed from his friend.

To meet the mounting pressure from his friend to return the borrowed money, Dutt, a cosmetics items salesman, planned to burgle the bank.
