New Delhi, July 20 (IANS) Delhi Police Tuesday filed a chargesheet against Madhuri Gupta, a junior Indian diplomat arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The chargesheet was filed in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja.
The court will take up the chargesheet, filed by the Special Cell of Delhi Police, for consideration July 21.
Gupta has been sent to judicial custody for a day.
Gupta, a second secretary at the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, was arrested here April 22 on charges of passing on information to the Pakistani intelligence agency.
The official came under the scanner after she showed ‘extraordinary’ interest in areas beyond her role in the information wing of the commission.
Central security agencies informed external affairs ministry officials about her activities in Pakistan which included supplying sensitive and classified documents related to Indian activities in that country and Afghanistan.
A promotee officer of the ministry, Gupta was working in the commission for nearly three years.
She is well versed in Urdu and her services were utilised for translation and interpretation.
Earlier, she was posted in the Indian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and worked with India Perspective, a magazine of the external publicity wing of the ministry.
