Raipur, Aug 13 (IANS) Chhattisgarh Friday said several people from the state had lost their lives in the flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir’s Leh town and announced Rs.1 lakh as compensation for each victim’s family.
‘The state government will pay Rs.100,000 to each of the families that lost their members in Leh’s disaster. The government will also be arranging for free treatement of the injured belonging to the state,’ an official statement said.
It added that the state government had already sent a team to Leh to help local authorities trace missing people from Chhattisgarh and also identity the dead belonging to the state.
The statement did not specify how many from Chhattisgarh were killed in the flash floods caused by a cloudburst Friday. The disaster claimed 183 lives while nearly 200 people are still missing.
Officials here said that majority of Chhattisgarh’s victims in Leh belonged to Janjgir-Champa district and were employed there as workers.
