Raipur, June 2 (IANS) Referring to Maoist violence in Chhattisgarh, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Wednesday that the state was going through a difficult time and the central government stood by it.
‘In the last eight weeks, there have been 28 major incidents of violence in this state. Many lives have been lost and many more have been injured,’ he said in a speech at the 40th All India Police Science Congress.
‘I wish to tell the people of Chhattisgarh that in this period of difficulty, the central government stands by you.’
Addressing the congress, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said: ‘There is no doubt in my mind that we will defeat Maoists terrorism, Chhattisgarh has to fight the menace with full force and capacity and has to defeat it for saving democracy and the country.’
The three-day meet will discuss several issues, though terrorism and leftwing extremism will be the prime focus.
