Jammu, Oct 27 (IANS) Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram will visit Leh and the Kashmir Valley in Jammu and Kashmir Sunday, official sources said Wednesday.
The home minister will review the reconstruction work in Leh that was hit by flash floods in August this year. More than 180 people were killed and a large number of people were rendered homeless in the floods.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was scheduled to visit Leh in the first week of November but his visit was cancelled, the sources said here.
In Srinagar, Chidambaram will review the security situation as also the progress on the dialogue front made by the three interlocutors appointed by the government on Jammu and Kashmir.
Three interlocutors – journalist Dilip Padgaonkar, academician Radha Kumar and information commissioner M.M. Ansari – held talks with various sections of society in the valley.
Chidambaram is also likely to announce some measures that would help defuse the situation in the valley, the sources said.
