New Delhi, Jan 6 (Inditop.com) Delhiites witnessed yet another chilly day Wednesday with dense fog engulfing the national capital and bringing the mercury down to 5.6 degrees Celsius. Weather officials have forecast a further drop in temperatures in the next two days.
The minimum temperature dropped a degree below the normal Wednesday and settled at 5.6 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature was 19 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the visibility was 100 metres at 7 a.m. It rose to 400 metres by 9 a.m.
“There was dense fog in the morning which lowered the visibility level. However, things improved once the day advanced,” an IMD official said.
The IMD has forecast a further drop in temperature Thursday with maximum settling around 20 degree Celsius and minimum at about 4 degrees.
“There will be fog in the morning but skies will remain clear later during the day,” the official said.
Unlike the weekend when fog wreaked havoc with flight schedules at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, flight operations were normal Wednesday.
“The visibility was alright for flights to continue normal operations. There were no disruptions because of the fog this morning,” an airport official said.
The fog was thickest above and around the Yamuna river, which passes through the eastern part of the capital, and commuters had a tough time getting to work.
Fog also hit train schedules and as many as 29 trains were cancelled and 12 were running late in the national capital due to fog, an official said.
“Twenty-nine trains were cancelled, four have been rescheduled and 12 are running late because of heavy fog here,” Anant Swarup, spokesperson of the Northern Railways, told IANS.
