Lucknow, Oct 3 (IANS) A policeman allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district Monday, an official said.

Dharam Nath Patel, 52, a head constable, shot himself with his service rifle while on duty at the Raksa police station in Jhansi, some 250 km from Lucknow.

‘His body was recovered from the toilet of the police station,’ police inspector Anand Vijay Singh said.

‘We are yet to establish what prompted Dharam to take the extreme step. The staff at the police station says he was remaining aloof for last four-five days,’ he added.
