New Delhi, Feb 24 (Inditop.com) The Delhi High Court Wednesday sent a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) executive engineer to jail for seven days for contempt of court.
Justice S.N. Dhingra passed the order against B.B. Bajaj, executive engineer of west zone MCD.
“His action is not only contemptuous but also shows scant concern for the safety of people’s lives,” the court said.
The court was hearing a contempt petition demanding action against MCD officials for violating earlier orders with regard to the survey of a property in the Rajouri Garden area.
“It is apparent from the status report that MCD had not complied with the order before regularization of the structure. The photographs show that the walls were raised even on slanting sun shades and projections in the building,” the court observed.
“MCD was to find out the load bearing capacity of these sun shades but, instead of carrying out inspection, MCD asked for a report from the owner of the building itself and the MCD washed its hands of the inspection and didn’t do anything else. It is clear non-compliance and violation of the court order,” the court said.
