Kolkata, Aug 24 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Tuesday said the crime rate in Kolkata is low though the city has lesser number of policemen compared to other metropolises of the country.
‘Kolkata has only 26,000 policemen, a figure much lower than that in other metros of the country. But it’s a matter of pride that with fewer security personnel our police force has succeeded in keeping the crime rate low,’ he said while inaugurating the first cyber crime police station here.
Bhattacharjee also lauded the police for maintaining communal harmony in the city.
‘It is not only that we have been able to keep crime under control but we have been successful in maintaining communal harmony as well,’ he said.
