New Delhi, Dec 11 (IANS) With most of north India shivering due to the chilly winter winds, Delhi too Saturday witnessed its coldest day of the season so far with the maximum and minimum temperatures touching their lowest marks.
‘It is the coldest day of this winter season today (Saturday) and the temperatures are expected to dip further as the days progress,’ an official of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
At 20.4 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature was four notches below the average while the minimum was 6.2 degrees, which was three notches below the average for this time of the season.
According to the IMD official, Sunday will again be a nippy day and the skies will remain clear.
‘There will be a light blanket of fog enveloping the city early morning tomorrow (Sunday) but the afternoon will be clear. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to settle below normal at 21 and 8 degrees Celsius,’ said the official.
Meanwhile, north India continues to shiver as Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed the coldest day of the season as the minimum temperature fell to minus 5.2 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperatures were minus 16 and minus 10.8 degrees Celsius in Leh and Kargil towns of the Ladakh region respectively.
