New Delhi, Feb 2 (IANS) Holding placards ‘enough is enough, go Mubarak go’ and shouting slogans like ‘Hosni Mubarak get lost’, students, volunteers from social organisations and rights groups Wednesday demonstrated outside the Egyptian embassy in support of the massive protests in the African country.

About 200 protesters held their demonstration outside the embassy in the high security diplomatic enclave in Chanakyapuri.

The demonstrators raising slogans against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak asked all the democratic minded Indians to participate in the protests.

The students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia and Delhi University held the demonstration with various students and teacher association like All India Students Association (ASIA), Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) and Jamia Teachers Solidarity Association (JTSA).

‘We are here as students from India in solidarity with the thousands of people in Egypt demanding their democratic rights,’ Ravi Rai, national general secretary of All India Students Association (ASIA), told IANS.

Anees Sudheen, a social work student from Jamia Millia Islamia University, said: ‘Mubarak should immediately step down from power, easing the transition to democracy, which will lead to freedom from 30 years of tyranny.’

Mohammed Ismail from Jamaat-e-islami Hind (JIH) said: ‘The silence of the Indian government on the issue comes as a surprise. It should unequivocally clarify its stance over the issue.’

He also said that India should suspend its diplomatic relations with Egypt till Mubarak resigns and an interim government is appointed.
