New Delhi, Dec 31 (IANS) The national capital, soaked in a sombre mood after the death of the Dec 16 gang-rape victim, will usher in the New Year amid tight security arrangements.
Trying to keep the Generation Y’s explosive anger over the gang-rape contained and battling the bitter cold of the passing year’s last night, Delhi Police have sought that the revellers do not go overboard and spill blood in road accidents. No drunken driving, they have warned.
To ensure that things pass off quietly, police have beefed up security deployment across the city.
“A total of 30 companies comprising of Delhi Police and paramilitary forces will be deployed throughout the capital,” said a police official.
“We have made all security arrangements for the New Year’s eve. All the arrangements are in place,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
“Check-posts will be set up around 10 p.m. and will be there till early hours of Tuesday (Jan 1),” he added.
