New Delhi, April 16 (Inditop.com) The union environment ministry has rejected a private firm’s proposal for iron and manganese ore mining in Karnataka as it produced forged letters for seeking environment clearance, the ministry said Friday.
According to an environment ministry statement, Karnataka-based Janthakal Enterprises had sought permission in December 2006 to carry out mining operations for iron ore and manganese in three villages of Chitradurga district in the state.
“The project proponent had produced forged letters which claimed to grant them permission to lift the old waste dump from the mines. In view of the above circumstances, the ministry is left with no choice but to reject the clearance sought in the present form,” a ministry statement said.
For any mining project, the applicant has to seek an Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) clearance from the ministry.
